Understanding coordination at the cellular scale.

We are testing our Sonilens product line for coherence. Our research examines localized stimulation, coordination in cellular and tissue systems, and its relationship to biological function.

A name for
a testable question.

Proposed · Version 0.1

Microcoherence is the term we use for a proposed framework for describing and testing coordination among biological processes within a specified local cellular or tissue system. Any claim of microcoherence must identify the processes, spatial scale, timescale, measurement method, and relationship—if any—to an independently measured biological function.

This working definition gives our Sonilens research a common language: identify the system, measure the relationship, and test its connection to function.

Definition history & revision policy

v0.1 · 29 October 2026 · Draft for review. Initial working definition. No earlier public version is asserted. Future revisions should preserve this wording, state what changed and why, and link the evidence or criticism that motivated the change.

02 / Scientific foundations

Start with established ideas.
Keep their boundaries intact.

Our research draws on optical terminology, cellular rhythms and the study of synchronization in biological systems.

01

Coherence has a context.

The NBS optical waveguide glossary describes coherence in terms of phase relationships in electromagnetic waves, with spatial and temporal limits. Their meaning is tied to the physical system being described.

02

Cells can coordinate rhythms.

Liu and colleagues studied mouse circadian clock networks. Intercellular coupling in SCN tissue helped sustain rhythms under certain genetic perturbations. The study offers a specific example of coordination within a cellular network.

03

More synchrony is not a goal.

Greene and colleagues examine a mechanism for calcium-wave synchronization in atrial tissue, in an arrhythmia context. The meaning of synchronization depends on the system and outcome.

03 / Measurement

Before a claim,
define the observation.

A useful study describes what was measured, where and when it happened, and how the result could be wrong. There is no universal microcoherence score here.

01 / SYSTEM

Set the boundary.

Name the cell or tissue type, preparation, spatial region, sampling interval and observation window.

02 / SIGNAL

Choose an observable.

Specify the biological process, instrument, calibration, noise floor and signal-processing choices.

03 / RELATIONSHIP

Match the metric.

Choose correlation, a phase metric or another justified statistic appropriate to the signal. Report uncertainty.

04 / FUNCTION

Measure it separately.

Define a biological function independently of the coordination metric. Test their relationship rather than assuming it.

05 / CHALLENGE

Try to disprove it.

Use controls, sham conditions, temperature and motion checks; test repeatability and independent reproduction.

A shared signal can reflect a shared artifact.
A correlation can exist without a causal relationship.

04 / Research questions

Questions worth making precise.

Reherence’s hardware research starts with an induction hypothesis: localized stimulation may change coordination within a defined biological system. These are proposed study questions, not results or ready-to-run protocols.

01

Can localized stimulation induce a reproducible change?

In a specified cell culture or tissue preparation, compare localized stimulation with baseline and sham conditions. Prespecify the stimulus parameters, spatial scale, time window, biological observable and appropriate correlation or phase metric. Test whether any change reproduces across independent samples.

02

Does the relationship track function?

Test against an independently measured biological endpoint, with blinded analysis and appropriate controls. A change in coordination without the predicted functional relationship would count against that hypothesis.

03

Does it survive alternative explanations?

Compare sham and active conditions where relevant, measure temperature, quantify motion artifacts, and test common-input explanations. If artifact correction removes the effect or replication fails, revise or reject the claim.

05 / Evidence & limitations

Research status
& evidence standards.

These labels describe different kinds of support. They are not an automatic ladder from engineering to clinical benefit.

We are testing our Sonilens product line for coherence. This site presents our framework, research questions and background literature; completed test results are not published here. Microcoherence is not a validated clinical measure, and hardware-induced biological effects and therapeutic efficacy have not been established. Greater synchronization does not automatically mean better function.

What would change our view?

Reproducible measurements with transparent methods could support a narrow claim. Null results, contradictory evidence and artifact explanations must be retained too. A failed prediction should change the hypothesis, not be relabeled as success.

Proposed
A definition, model or hypothesis awaiting testing. Our working definition and induction hypothesis use this label.
Engineering verified
A defined device output or sensor behavior verified under stated conditions. No biological effect follows from that alone.
Biological observation
A measured phenomenon in a stated biological system. Association does not establish causation.
Controlled result
A result tested against appropriate controls, with uncertainty, limitations and replication status disclosed.
Human clinical
Evidence from appropriately designed human studies for a specified endpoint and population. No such evidence is presented here for this framework.

07 / About & contributions

A definition that
can be challenged.

In our framework, Reherence is the process of creating coherence.

That is how we define the process. Through Sonilens, we are testing whether localized stimulation can produce measurable biological coherence. Our research and evidence standards guide how we assess the results.

Reherence is the source brand for this hardware research and stewards the framework. This site brings together our definitions, research questions and measurement approach.

Useful contributions include sharper definitions, relevant literature, counterexamples, measurement critiques and reproducibility plans.

Contribution submission is not currently enabled. No personal information is collected.

What a useful contribution includes

  • The exact statement or definition version being addressed.
  • The cell or tissue system, scale and timescale.
  • A source, method or concrete counterexample.
  • What the evidence supports—and what it cannot support.
  • A testable revision or a condition that would falsify the claim.
